• Understand the risk profile and time horizon of the fund to know whether it might meet your investment objectives
• Know what costs you are incurring, as your return is always net of costs
• Look at how the fund has performed recently and over different lengths of time
• Understand what assets the fund is invested in - e.g. equities, property, bonds, cash, etc.
