National pensioners discounts: all the perks

As you embark on this new journey, the idea of retirement can bring financial pressure. But some good news is that a group of South African retailers is stepping up to support pensioners with special discounts to help stretch your budget and make everyday essentials more affordable.

GENERAL DISCOUNTS
Location: National
Discount: Pensioners receive 10% off all cash purchases every Wednesday (excluding sales items and services).
Requirements: Customers must bring along a valid South African ID to qualify for purchases.
Location: National
Discount: Over 60s can qualify for a Senior Citizens’ Discount Card which is valid each day (Monday to Sunday) and the first R3 000 spent will qualify for a 10% discount.
Requirements: Game Pensioners Card that can be acquired at the in-store customer service desk.

Discount: Every Tuesday at all Makro branches nationwide, pensioners receive the following discounts:
- Up to 10% off on most general merchandise products but excludes liquor, cellular products, tobacco products, iTunes, ShowMax, Google Play and Makro gift cards.
- Up to 5% off on most food products including butchery, groceries and fruit and vegetables.
Requirements: An mPensioners card that can be acquired at the in-store customer service desk.
Location: National
Discount: Over 60s can get double Smart Shopper points every Wednesday.
Requirements: Smart Shopper card and a valid South African ID
Clicks Location: National
Discount: Clubcard members who are over 60 years old receive Double Points every Wednesday.
Requirements: Clicks Club card and a valid South African ID.
Location: National
Discount: Tiger Wheel & Tyre runs Pensioner Specials every Tuesday. Enquire with your local branch about in-store discounts on tyres / selected products and services for customers over 60 years old.
Requirements: A valid South African ID and a valid driver’s licence.
HEALTH AND PERSONAL CARE
Location: National
Discount: Double points on all items purchased in-store every Wednesday. Other benefits include one free blood pressure test a month, discounts on selected salon treatments and invitations to exclusive 60 Plus tea parties.
Requirements: Dischem card and a valid South African ID.
Location: National
Discount: South African Association of Retired Persons (SAARP) members can enjoy exclusive package cash deals at any Spec-Savers store nationwide.
Requirement: SAARP membership card.
FOOD
Discount: Enjoy the seniors’ menu, valid for every day of the week.
Requirement: A valid South African ID.
Location: National
Discount: Participating Montagu stores nationwide offer a 5 to 10% discount to senior customers. Check with your latest store to see what discounts are available.
Requirement: A valid South African ID.
ADVENTURE DISCOUNTS
Discount: The discounts are for camping or staying in accommodation and can be up to 40% off the normal rate.Discounts only apply to certain months of the year and excludes Fridays, Saturdays and long weekends.
Requirements: A valid South African ID.
ENTERTAINMENT
Discount: Over 60s are offered a 50% discount for all movies on weekdays and weekends, up to and including the 5.30pm shows.
Requirements: A valid South African ID.
Discount: Over 60s can enjoy up to 50% discount on movies. This is not applicable to Wednesdays as on this day everyone qualifies for a special rate.
